New York City, February 19, 2019 — The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization devoted to a world of longer, healthier lives, is proud to announce that Emmy Award-winning actress and New York Times best-selling author Susan Lucci will deliver the Keynote Address at the 2019 NYC Go Red for Women Luncheon on Friday, March 8, 2019.

Only a few months removed from a life-threatening heart episode that resulted in her having two stents inserted into her heart, the All My Children star is partnering with the Association to raise awareness about the importance of women coming together to prioritize their own health and drawing attention to the warning signs of heart disease.

“As women, we’re not on our to-do list. We nurture others but often put our own health last,” Lucci said. “I am partnering with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement to share a message of empowerment: ‘Women, listen to your symptoms and don’t be afraid to get the medical attention you need.’ Prioritizing your health is smart and strong, not selfish.”

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of women in the U.S., claiming almost one woman every 80 seconds. The Go Red for Women movement motivates women to learn their family history and to meet with a healthcare provider to determine their risk for cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

“We are delighted that television-icon Susan Lucci has joined this movement and is courageously sharing her story to help us improve the health of all women,” said Kathy A. Kauffmann, Senior Vice President of the American Heart Association in New York City. “One in three women die of heart disease and stroke each year, so the more awareness we can raise, the closer we will be to a world of longer, healthier lives. Thank you to Susan Lucci and the thousands of women who are united for strong hearts and minds.”

Go Red for Women is nationally sponsored by CVS Health. The Elizabeth Elting Foundation and Rewire Me by Rose Caiola are New York City Goes Red sponsors.
